ANSA, 9 may 2006: The members of Parliament of Rifondazione Comunista/Sinistra europea Elettra Deiana, Tiziana Volpiana, Celeste Nardini and Titti De Simone condemn the aggression that the afghan member of parliament Malalai Joya has had from some colleagues after a speech made during the parliamentary session of her country in which she said that in the parliament are sit many warlords of the Northern Alliance that took the place of the past fundamentalist Taliban regime.

“Malalai Joya said that she was hit by some colleagues by empty bottles of water while some other where insulting her and threatened to kill her.

It is not the first time that the courageous Malalai Joya takes position against tribal positions; in the afghan parliament have place many leaders mujaheddin and drug traffickers and weapons traffickers.

We think that this aggression, that reveals ho difficult and complex is the way towards a real democratic life in Afghanistan and that our commitment in the direction of a real growth of the institutions must be increased; Malalai Joya has suffered of a very serious intimidatory act against a young member of parliament committed since ever in the defence of women’s rights and in the building of democracy for her own people.

We express our full solidarity and we feel committed to carry on the action already started during the past legislature under the Presidence od Chamber of deputees.
