Malalai Joya launches a project for the Civil Hospital in Farah
Defence Committee for Malalai Joya, April 8, 2008
Malalai Joya received some monetary donations from her individual supporters and well-wishers during her tours to Germany, the USA and Italy in the past few months.
Joya decided to spend this approximately US$30,000 donation for public services in Farah province. She consulted some tribe elders and sought their opinions. Most of them wanted the money to be utilized for a waiting area in the Farah Civil Hospital because many families coming from faraway districts with their patients had to stay the night in the porch of the hospital in either summer or winter with a lot of difficulties.
Therefore this project was launched to help the poor people of Farah.
The waiting area will be a two-storey building with an area of 200 m² with four rooms, a hall and a bathroom in the first floor and a big hall with a large balcony in the second floor. It would be built with a US$30,000 budget thus benefiting the care-takers of the patients.
On April 2, 2008, on the behalf of Malalai Joya, the foundation of this project was laid by Belquis Roshan, the chief of Provincial Council of Farah. The ceremony was attended by many elders and people, the governor, the chief of public health and the chief of environmental protection, along with the manager of economics and the manager of Radio Television of Farah.
A report of the ceremony was also broadcasted through the Television of Farah
It merits a mention that in the past Joya has spent such donation for distribution of food and supplies for refugee families in Kabul, for building Ustad Awalmir and Ustad Dori Logeri’s graves and for the Hamoon Clinic in Farah city.
